That why word of mouth usually is the best advertising. You can get a poor tech even with a good company- if you do find a good tech , request him every time.

That's really bad that they weren't maintaining the conditioner properly. All air conditioing needs to be properly maintainedd and to pay someone to do it only for them to pretend is disgraceful.

Very interesting posting and I totally support the reputation system. As far as air conditioning goes...I considered switching to a split unit but decided eventually to stick with a monobloc aircomditioner. A monobloc unit remains the most simple air conditioning solution, in installation as well as in maintenance.

Getting referrals from friends can work, but it's not guaranteed. Your friend might have bought a great product and got great service 3 years ago from a company, but 3 years is a long time. It really depends on how up-to-date their recommendations are and how much personal knowledge they have over the product they bought. Conversely, a lot of people think they've bought a great product, until it breaks after 6 months too! My point is always checkout various sources of information - friends, independent reviews (often found online), and your own careful judgement.

I have found that the reputation system you mentioned is really somewhat useless and not accurate. I always ask around to friends for referrals, but if it was the air conditioner where I live there might not be any time to check to much.

That's very interesting.. I know of a company that can help you with your situation, even if you do not live within the immediate vicinity, I suggest either going to the website or calling them by phone.. they take care of air conditioners as well.. Homeservice Club is a medium between contractors and customers, guaranteeing customers don't get ripped off or screwed by contractors.

Why O why do maintenance companies not do what you ask, you pay good money and they simply don't to the correct job. Like Tim (Comment Above) I also totally agree with your points...good post

Finding good maintenance vendors for your household items like air conditioner is always going to be very difficult. The reputation system of course is a good way to keep track of their records. Nice analysis of the issues involved in getting ready a reputation system. I totally agree with your points made in this posting.
