tobias: I started Ragamuffin and am already hooked. I kept picking it up during slow moments in something else last night and then putting aside the first activity for the book.

dew: Cool. :)

Court: Well then I hope it does the job! I enjoy SF, but I do find I go back and forth on actually reading it. I think because, while there's some awesome SF out there, it can be difficult to find. So I end up getting frustrated with the genre and going back to other things. Oddly, a halfway-decent thriller, say, can still be more fun than a halfway-decent SF book, IMO, since a halfway-decent thriller still tends to draw me in just by nature of the genre. So I think I'm a bit more tolerant of sub-par quality in that genre, as well as things like mysteries. This probably isn't exactly 'fair,' but it's a quirk of the genres. Even a so-so mystery can still catch at your imagination, and a comparatively boring thriller can still be kind of exciting. Whereas a not-so-great SF novel often doesn't have so much to hang on to.

I used to positively love the scifi genre, but in the past few years I stopped reading it almost completely. I keep looking for a book that will help me get back into the genre, and this one sounds like it might do that. :)
