Reiki: I've tried both Dummies guides and CIG books and definitely found the latter to more consistently good overall (although there are definitely ones I haven't been as impressed by). I really did enjoy this book, although I definitely prefer books that use photos instead of illustrations.

Yoga books: Heh, yeah, I tend to go a bit crazy buying books, too, when I'm interested in a topic. I agree that this is a good book for folks who think yoga is either too hard or too weird.

I actually own this book, I'm one of those people that buy everything on a topic they're interested in...yes, even the dummies and idiots books, lol. I think this particular is excellent for the beginner and as you mentioned is either brilliant or horrible depending on your viewpoint. I like it because it doesn't use yoga terms, which might be enough to get someone more interested that has a stigma of sorts regarding the "Y word."

I have many Complete Idoit Guide books and must say that they are a good starting point for learning more about any subject. While I have not yet purchased this book, I did have the occasion to read and skim through it while at Barne's and Noble the other night. I must say that I too was impressed with the amount of variety in stretches that this book had. I wish the illustrations were a bit better though...
