Errant Thoughts

Writer’s Market Deluxe and WritersMarket.com

Because the Writer’s Market Deluxe includes a 1-year subscription to WritersMarket.com, my review of the 2007 Deluxe Writer’s Market is also a review of WritersMarket.com.

Having looked at and/or tried a few submission trackers and online databases of writers’ guidelines in the past, I’m really impressed by how simple and effective WritersMarket.com is. If you’re serious about submitting your work, $30/year for a subscription (or $50 for the deluxe Writer’s Market plus subscription) hardly seems like that much to spend for access to such tools and information.

I’m working on a couple of new review books. I received “Thinkertoys” and the “Thinkpak” from 10 Speed Press, as well as “Secrets of a Jewish Baker.” We decided to try a bran bread from the latter; the author claimed the bran was a large part of what made the bread so tasty, and since I’m accustomed to thinking of anything labeled bran as being tasteless and sawdust-like, I had to test his claim. Wow–I’m amazed to say that it’s one of the best “healthy” breads I’ve ever had, as well as one of the best breads period.

I’m also working on some books from my own “to be read” stash, but naturally books I’ve been sent by publishers come first.

You might have noted that we planned to switch to the new site this week and have had a slight delay. We just need to work out a couple of kinks, and we didn’t want to go that long without posting things, so I’ll go back to posting here until it’s all ironed out and ready to be imported and deployed over there.
