I seem to be one of those people that sometimes goes on a roll with my reading and other times prefers to mix things up as much as possible. :-) I'm always straddling the fence. Haha

CeeCee: I often avoid series for that reason; trying to find all the books can be a bear!

I am, in fact, an avid label reader. I was a hyperactive child and wasn't allowed to eat anything artificial for a long time, so I learned to read labels at a VERY early age!

I have to read all the books in an interesting series. My poor bank and library card gets a work out.

Yea, I've often wondered who labeled snack foods as well. Are you an avid label reader too? I can't get out the grocery store because I'm reading the darn labels! LOL.

Jaimie: It makes sense in old cookbooks, for all the reasons you mention; that is a really interesting history note! But today, we certainly know better, especially when sugar is in everything. I hate it when companies that clearly do know better label things like gumdrops "fat free!" as though that makes them healthy, or label anything with fruit in it "healthful" or "wholesome" no matter how much fat or sugar is in it. It's so misleading, and takes advantage of parents who don't understand nutrition and who are worried about feeding their kids the right things. "Oh, its wholesome and I want to do the right thing for my kids. I should get that."

I used to collect old cookbooks and you would not believe the stuff they labled as "healthful". And yes, at one time they thought sugar was good for you. Of course when I check the copyright dates it was during WWll when rationing was taking place. Two pounds of sugar a month for a family of who knows how many kids is not going to go far.

Mostly I don't. However there are times I do. I once read Perry Masons for a long time at a stretch.

Chris: I don't have the attention span to do it for long, but I know I do it for short time periods.

Scott: I know several folks who answered this week's meme mentioned noticing after-the-fact some apparent patterns, and seemed unsure as to whether this was subconsciously intentional or what you indicate.

I also don't think I'm a theme reader, though the mind does create the strangest correlations from random events.
