Dazed & Confused

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

It’s an odd morning. I had several very odd & vivid dreams last night, one flowing into another, and woke up utterly disoriented. Oddly, more than an hour later that feeling has only slightly abated. I’m at a loss to explain it.

Yet more reviews, and Warcraft mods

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

A couple of new reviews have gone up:

I know I’ve talked about some of my favorite Warcraft UI mods before, but it’s been a while, and mods change frequently. So, here we go, another foray into a few of my favorites; most of these can be found at Curse Gaming.

Beginning Writers’ Answer Guide, Reviewed

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I’ve posted a new review, of The Beginning Writer’s Answer Book, 30th Anniversary Edition, edited by Jane Friedman. If you’re new to the world of professional writing and want to tackle it as a career or serious hobby, this is a very useful book to have.

I like to pick up several of the shirts or other items we’ve put up at cafepress now and then, just to make sure they’ve come out well and I don’t need to change anything like font size or color to make sure they look right. I ordered one of the Certifiably Bonzo dark shirts because I wanted to make sure the red writing showed up well enough on it, and well, because I like the shirt! I’m really pleased with how it came out. I’m also very pleased with I’d love to help you, but I’m dead, which is just plain fun.

CafePress Holiday Contest 2006

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

So, as you may or may not remember, we entered our I’m not lazy, I’m just out of mana dark t-shirt in CafePress’ “Big Idea Holiday Contest” 2006. I wasn’t convinced that such a niche design could place, but hell if I wasn’t going to try my hardest. Well much to my surprise and delight, we came in second!

Not content to rest on our laurels, we fully intend to enter the upcoming “Anti-Valentine’s Day” contest, which begins on the 15th. Keep an eye out here for an announcement when we put our design up in a couple of days.

“A Passion for Ice Cream” (Review)

Monday, January 8th, 2007

Today’s review is of Emily Luchetti’s A Passion for Ice Cream–a wonderful cookbook full of impressive and delicious frozen dessert recipes. Other than that, well, it’s been one of those slow & sleepy days. I’m making headway through a review book called “The Beginning Writer’s Answer Book.” It’s very thick with information and not really meant to be read cover-to-cover the way I’m reading it for review, so it’s taking me a little time to finish. Hopefully soon, though!

Review of “Grandmother’s Cookbook”

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

I’ve just posted a review of Grandmother’s Cookbook, by Elizabeth Rose von Hohen and Carrie J. Gamble. If you miss your grandmother’s cooking, you really must check this one out.

There will hopefully be more to come later today. I have another cookbook I plan to review today or tomorrow, a bunch of T-shirts to start designing, a Twilight Time issue to work on, and more. It all depends on what order I end up going in!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful 2007–Happy New Year!

Review of Bejeweled 2 Deluxe

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I finally got to reviewing Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, one of several favorite games from PopCap.

I think that’s kind of it for the morning. Why does it feel like Friday?

Review of Bookworm Deluxe

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Well, at least I did manage to post a review of Bookworm Deluxe in the reviews blog. I’m still waiting for the doctor to call back, after having called twice, and still waiting to hear back from customer service about that missing package. I know folks are busy at this time of year, and I feel badly (particularly with the customer service folks) for being a pest, but I’m running out of time in both cases. If I need a new prescription I have to give my pharmacy at least a couple of hours to fill it at this time of year, and if I have to order something new to get to those friends, I really need to be doing so now if I want any hope of it getting there by Christmas.

Why is it the holidays always get so crazy, anyway?

Obligatory Edit: This is why I love the King Arthur Flour Company Baker’s Catalogue. They re-sent the order to arrive in just three days, despite the fact that this appears to have been entirely the fault of the post office, and they did it without any fuss or anything. They’re such a wonderful company. This is why I’ve been shopping with them for 15-20 years, ever since I actually lived near their store.

And, tomorrow I can pick up my new antibiotics, which I gather the pharmacy had to order. The doctor was ‘concerned’ about trying to find an antibiotic I could take, so we went with an old one that isn’t very common any more but that has never given me any trouble before.

Late 2006 Holiday Buyers’ Guide (for cooks)

Friday, December 15th, 2006

I’m afraid this year’s gift guide for cooks was way later than I intended–watching over Selene followed by a week of fever really changed my plans. I apologize, and with any luck it’ll be much earlier next year. Hopefully you’ll still find it handy for birthdays, last-minute ideas, and the all-important question of what to do with those Amazon gift certificates!

Speaking of which, gotta drop in a last-minute plug for those, ’cause I know as a recipient I just adore them (especially since Amazon sells so much more than books now, and I can take a single gift card and go buy books, kitchenware, a bookcase, cat furniture, software… you name it, they probably have it!):
