40 things that only happen in movies

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

I’ve seen most of these before, but they’re still fun: Moronland.net - 40 Things That Only Happen in Movies. It’s tough to pick a favorite, but I may have to go with this one:

19. Guns are like disposable razors. If you run out of bullets, just throw the gun away. you will always find another one.

(Link found at FARK, naturally.)

We’re up to 12 “Adventurers’ Last Words” designs at Cafepress, with a bunch to come yet:

Adventurers’ Last Words: You call that a plan?!
Mugs, shirts, more!

I swear, when we get together with that friend of ours, ideas fly faster than I can write them down. It’s even worse now that his son has leveled up enough to join us; he takes after his father in the quick wit department! Put the four of us together and I end up scribbling stuff down so fast I can hardly read my own handwriting. I have enough t-shirt ideas to keep us going for months. Eventually I’ll start paring out ones that don’t sell, but I want to give each one a bit of time.

Cooooooffffffeeeeeeee…..

You Are an Espresso
At your best, you are: straight shooting, ambitious, and energetic

At your worst, you are: anxious and high strung

You drink coffee when: anytime you’re not sleeping

Your caffeine addiction level: high

What Kind of Coffee Are You?

Hmm. I guess that’s partially true. I would probably drink coffee any time I wasn’t sleeping if I weren’t so sensitive to caffeine/acid and didn’t mind the idea of being addicted to caffeine. As it is I have a strict limit of one cup in the morning and one in the afternoon. Which I only occasionally break for a third in the evening…

Also, Marcus vs. HP DeskJet, Cat 1/Printer 0:

Oh, and, although Cafepress seemed to be having some glitches yesterday that kept me from adding my newest design for a while, I did eventually put it up:

Who’s going to play the cleric?
Clothing, mugs, more!

“We live in Singapura”

Friday, September 29th, 2006

I found the above hysterical video at Simon SAYs. Even without getting some of the Singapore references I found it hilarious, and when my husband gets home to explain some of the rest (he went there on business not all that long ago) I expect I’ll find it even funnier.

“Keep Talking”

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Ooooh, one of the folks who writes a blog I keep up with posted a song he did. I quite like it! Now if only Cranius would post his next original.

I recently received a Senseo–one of those “brew your coffee one cup at a time” gizmos. I really wasn’t fond of the taste of the coffee, but I didn’t know if that was due to the particular coffee they included or the process, so I picked up some refillable pods for the thing. Now that I can make coffee in it using my usual brand, I can compare it to the Toddy and write a review, hopefully sometime this week! In a sense it’ll be three reviews in one: a review of the Senseo, the coffee pods, and the refillable filters.

I also just collected the various blank journals at the cafepress store into one section of journals. Whether you want to keep a diary or use them for your writing exercises, we hope you enjoy! I realized I haven’t put together journals for all of the designs, so I’ll do more of them soon (it would take a while to explain why technical issues sometimes prevent me from putting a design on one type of item or another temporarily).

Star Trek’s 40th

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

I have my mixed feelings about the Star Trek franchise as a whole, but in general I’m really glad the series has existed. The original made a lot of “firsts,” and it got me through several years of my childhood. We only got one channel on the TV, and my mother let me watch very little other than Little House on the Prairie and Sesame Street… except for Star Trek reruns on Saturday afternoons, because she was an old fan.

NextGen I wasn’t as fond of. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely had its share of good actors and episodes. But it really felt like the emergence of ST as a “franchise” and all the negative connotations that go with that. So, mixed feelings. After that I kind of lost track of the various iterations of the universe. I think I still prefer to largely think of ST as the original show, something that today might look silly, but that when I was seven years old and living in the backwoods of Vermont was positively luminous. I don’t have many treasured childhood nostalgias, so I’ll hang onto that one, thanks.

Anyway, regardless, it’s really neat to read Wil Wheaton’s musings on Trek’s 40th, in particular the pieces of his review of NG’s “Naked Now” episode. As usual his writing is both hilarious and thought-provoking. Enjoy!

Today’s links

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

I’m going to try to batch these up, save this throughout the day, and just post it once so I can stop with all the three-post-days or whatever.

First link of the day: Zen and the art of getting off tilt from Wil Wheaton. His writing is so evocative that I find it fascinating to read about poker, and I really don’t care all that much about poker.

Next, the 2006 Comic-Con Snakes on a Plane panel, including Sam Jackson, a 19′ anaconda, and a 10-minute clip from the film. (Link via FARK.) You really, really have to go watch the video of the panel. Trust me on this one.

I’ve been updating the reviews blog with all the chocolate cookbook reviews today, so oh god am I hungry now! Makes me glad I found a good-quality sugar-free dark chocolate bar at Trader Joe’s that’s sweetened with xylitol (rather than Splenda) and less than half the price of the Guylian bars at the supermarket. I may have to use it to make hot chocolate tonight.

Simmons ‘does’ Whose Line

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

YouTube - Funniest Who’s Line ever

I used to watch (and am still a fan of) “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” a hilariously entertaining improv comedy show with some very talented folks on it. Some time ago a friend made me watch an episode I had missed on which Richard Simmons made a guest appearance. Above is a link to the clip including him. His appearance on the show is so freakin’ hilarious that even the regulars can’t keep a straight face.
