It’s almost Christmas time, and yes, that means that each and every charity out there will be banging on your door and mine. Every year, however, I manage to scrape together a little something to donate to Child’s Play, no matter how strapped for cash I am.
In case you don’t read the awesome Penny Arcade comic and aren’t familiar with it, here’s the premise:
With the help of hospital staff, we’ve set up gift wish lists full of video games, toys, and movies. You can go to each hospital’s list and buy a toy, and that toy will be sent to the hospital. Some of these kids are in pretty bad shape. Imagine being stuck alone in a hospital over the holidays, getting something from a fellow gamer would really raise their spirits. Some of the stuff the hospital will give away for kids to keep, while other gifts (like consoles) will be kept by the hospital for patients to use throughout the year.
You can use the Amazon wish lists to pick out gifts that appeal to you and send them to the hospital of your choice, and usually PA has events as well (such as a charity auction and dinner) to support the thing. They raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in toys every year for these children–help them do it again. Put a smile on a sick child’s face for the holidays this year!
