Multiples: Booking Through Thursday

Yes, I’m back to doing the weekly Booking through Thursday book-related question-and-answer thing. This week’s topic is “multiples”:

Do you have multiple copies of any of your books?

Only one that I’m aware of: “Kushiel’s Dart.”

If so, why? Absent-mindedness? You love them that much? First Editions for the shelf, but paperbacks to read?

I picked up a copy, didn’t get around to reading it, and then my husband picked up a copy at some point for him to read, not realizing we already had the book. Whoops! The really silly thing? I still haven’t gotten around to reading it! By the way, the husband says the series is amazing, right up there with Anne Bishop’s “Black Jewels” trilogy, and that’s high praise indeed.

If not, why not? Not enough space? Not enough money? Too sensible to do something so foolish?

In general, not enough space or money for that kind of thing. I don’t have enough bookshelves as it is!

I have that series to read and I love The Black Jewels trilogy so thanks for the push!

I’ve only bought multiple copies of The Count of Monte Cristo. But I have extra copies of several other books that I’ve bought and then receive copies from authors (I keep the signed ones of course), publishers, or won in contests.

SciFiChick: I think so far I’ve been lucky to not receive dupes in those manners, although sometimes it surprises me that I haven’t. It’s probably because I have this habit of buying older books rather than newer ones most times, such that the ones I get as review books are usually more recent. I’d definitely keep the signed ones too. 🙂

Rhinoa: Awesome! So glad I could help. Darn it, now I need to get around to reading it… BTW, I hope you don’t mind but I added your blog to the blogroll on my book reviews blog.

I bought several copies of “The Precious Present” by Spencer Johnson because I thought the book was so powerful I wanted to share it with friends. I think I still have an extra copy laying around. Guess I better get off my duff and give it away!

belladonna: Definitely a good reason! I haven’t heard of that one—I’ll have to go look it up.

Well I finally got off my butt this evening and checked out our local library. It isn’t huge, but of course it’s plugged into the rest of ’em for requests, and it’s all well-lit, clean, and modernized, so it’s very nice. I’ll have to bring some of my books in to donate. 🙂

Thanks for your “multiple” comments on my blog. You’ve made a few recently.

I like Errant Reviews so much my next post will be about it. I especially like the professional layout and the easy-to-use indexes. It will take me quite a while to explore my favorite topics.

    Happy reading!

  8. My husband has learned to ask me before buying a book to make sure I haven’t already gotten it. Lately he’s been spending a lot of time in my TBR room looking through my books . . . They technically are his too, but I still think of them as mine since we got them for me to read. I like it when he dips into the books I want to read!

Back to the topic, we don’t have a lot in the way of duplicates, but we do have a few. Mostly the duplicates came from my husband’s collection that he brought with him into our marriage, but at least one is my doing. Not including the “accidents” which are usually because I forget I already have a copy. Luckily that doesn’t happen too often.

Cereal Girl: I enjoy reading your reviews too—and thank you so much for the kind words on the reviews blog! For some bizarre reason I just truly love doing book reviews so, there I am. 🙂

Literary Feline: Heh, I’m really amazed it doesn’t happen more often to us. I think probably because we merged our book collections nearly ten years ago, which means we know most of which books we both have.
