Well, that settles it, I’m an idiot

I was doing a little bit of restructuring of the links directory. I was about to delete an empty subcategory of the “advice for writers” link category, and I’d swear that’s what I clicked on. Yet somehow I ended up deleting the entire advice category. Hopefully when my husband gets home he’ll know of a way to recover it. If not, well… if you know we linked to your site from that category, come back in a couple days and re-submit it, please, if we haven’t managed to recover the category.

*hangs head in shame*

I don’t even have the traditional excuse of not yet having had my morning cup of coffee.

Well, I’d better go write my “Deep Fathom” review instead of doing any further damage.

Update: WAHOO! Yes, my husband is awesome. We have the links back. It’s possible I may have undeleted some links that should have remained deleted (i.e., they were deleted previously), so I’ll go through later and check the sites. Huge, huge thanks to Jeffrey!

Don’t you just hate it when that happens? I did a snafu with my comuputer once and wound up deleting 86 pages of some of my very best writing ever. AARGH!!! They tell me some whiz kid geek could have recovered it all somehow, but I just accepted the loss and moved on. After all, I’ve learned over the years my best writing is REwriting… but I never did find a path to recapture that same sort of voice that went flying into the great beyond along with lost socks.

Then of course there is alwys the flip side mistake of pushing the wrong button…we’ve all heard horror stories of those who INTENDED an e-mail for one specific person but inadvertantly did a repy all and wound up sending inappropriate words or venomous rants to an entire group much to their later chagrin.

This tech stuff is a true blessing, but not without it’s pitfalls, to be sure!

I’m lucky that my husband is that whiz kid geek, all growed up. That helps. I just hate having to bug him with it, you know?

I just lost a few hours work when the template interface in Word ignored all of yesterday’s typing and saved the pristine, unmodified version of the document instead. After much searching, it became obvious that I wasn’t going to turn up the missing temp file and recreated it. It was a lot faster this time, working from memory instead of finding the flaws from scratch…

Oh man. Much sympathy (to both of you) on those losses. It’s amazing how easy it is to wipe out so much work, eh?

I’m glad it all worked out 🙂

Not an idiot, intelligently challenged. 🙂 That’s what I tell myself anyway.

    Cynthia–thank you; me too!!

    Bildo–lol; I like that. 😉
