Anticipation (BTT)

Today’s Booking Through Thursday is all about anticipation:

What new books are you looking forward to most in 2008? Something new being published this year? Something you got as a gift for the holidays? Anything in particular that you’re planning to read in 2008 that you’re looking forward to? A classic, or maybe a best-seller from 2007 that you’re waiting to appear in paperback?

Oddly, the two books I’m looking forward to the most are the ones I get to use this week. My husband and I are going to a Twelfth Night feast this weekend at a friend’s, and we were asked if we’d be willing to make bread for 25 people. Willing? We’re psyched! As it so happens—and this is a total concidence—I just got review copies of two very appropriate cookbooks. One is A Baker’s Odyssey, a book of traditional bread recipes from around the world. The other is Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. So we get to make a bunch of really great breads that we’ve never made before, share them with wonderful people, and test out two review cookbooks! It doesn’t get much better than that.

Speaking of cookbooks, I have two new book reviews up: Wild Game Cookery and Make-a-Mix. More to come—particularly those bread books!

  1. Those books are GOOD reads! I love to read cookbooks although I am not much into cooking!

I just heard about the artisan bread book and instantly sent details to both sons. We’re all dying to try it. Shall read your review on Wild Game cooking too. I do enjoy reading about cooking. Happy baking!

I’ll hopefully be posting reviews of the bread books next week, since I plan to do quite a bit with them this weekend. I already made my first batch of dough from the artisan bread book. I didn’t have a properly-sized plastic container to keep it in in the fridge, so I settled on cutting the top off of a gallon water-jug. It’s perfect.

I have a few cookbooks that I have yet to look through… anyway I hardly cook except during the weekends. However, if time permits I’d love to attend a baking class.

I’m crazy about cookbooks. I could read them for hours. I just need to spend more time cooking. LOL.

  6. Chris says:

I would love to be able to make bread!

Melody: We definitely do most of our cooking on the weekends, but we try to fit a few simple recipes into the weekdays too. Luckily one of those two bread cookbooks works well for that…

Kristy: Lol, I know what you mean!

Chris: Seriously, give Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day a try. Read the instructions through thoroughly, and then give it a shot. It’s a very simple method, and it produces incredible bread.
