Flower Photos and Hand-Made Jewelry

Although I’ve seemed relatively quiet these last few weeks, I haven’t been idle. Today’s book review is of Deidre Knight’s Red Fire, a paranormal romance involving Georgia and immortal Spartans. Really.

I’ve been taking a ton of photos while out and about, mostly of plants and flowers; here’s a sample:

Many of those photos are available as prints.

I’ve also been putting together (and posting at our etsy store) plenty of jewelry and beaded bookmarks. Of course what with the economic crisis this was exactly the wrong time to start such an endeavor—I hear even the long-time sellers at Etsy with large followings have made few sales in the past weeks—but I have patience. I can wait until things get better, and in the meantime I’ll build up our stock of lovely things. I’m getting much better at taking photos of items, thanks to a light box and lots of practice:

If you want to buy any of them, the photos at DeviantArt have links below them to their listings at Etsy, or you can go directly to our etsy store (errantdreams.etsy.com). There are a few items that are more expensive—usually jewelry sets—but there are also plenty of items that are under $10.

Plenty more things to come soon! I have some cookware to review, as well as a ton of books. I’m in the middle of reading Ad Hudler’s Man of the House, and we’re making recipes out of some cookbooks I haven’t reviewed yet. So stick around! 🙂

I like your flower heart picture– great eye. Your jewelry is also pretty… and I suppose Christmas is coming. Maybe it’s time to take an hour to cruise through your shop. 😉

The pictures are gorgeous!! Do you do this mainly as a hobby or ever for more than that?

Beautiful flower pic, Heather! And your photography is great.

ScottM: Thank you! I’ve really been working at improving my eye, because it isn’t something that came naturally for me. I hope you like what you see in the shop! It’s so much fun playing with shinies, and there’s a ton more stuff to come. 😀 I’m trying to add at least two items to the shop every weekday.

Trish: Thank you so much! The flower pictures are definitely a hobby. The jewelry-making is more than a hobby, but less than a job. I want to take it as far as it’ll go, but it’s definitely slow ramping up with the economy the way it is, and I’m still learning. 🙂

Alice: Thank you—that means so much to me; I’ve always loved your photos!

  5. Is that what they are really called? “Heart of a Flower?” What a pretty name for such a simple, yet beautiful flower. Something about its simplicity really caught my eye.

Hi Heather! Was that photo of the flowers taken somewhere in Asia? I believe I saw a bunch of those in one of our family trips. They were so simple and quiet by the road side that one may almost fail to see their beauty.

Every time I see flowers and critters, i wanna grab my camera and get up close to them. I’m loving macro photography right now! It’s amazing how the intricate details can indeed make up a whole object!
